Researchers Forced To Scrap Another Sleep Study After Participants Murdered In Dreams By Serial Killer

STANFORD, CA—Having no choice but to discard the partial and unusable results, researchers at the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine were forced on Thursday to scrap yet another sleep study after participants were murdered in their dreams by a serial killer. “Unfortunately, after our sleeping subjects were once again massacred by a phantasmagorical serial killer, all of our data were rendered worthless,” said lead researcher Gregory Thompson, saying that the wildly fluctuating vital signs of the sleeping test subjects seemed to suggest that they had been swallowed by their beds and had their bones spit out in geysers of blood. “We have attempted to fine-tune our test conditions several times since this problem first arose in the 1980s, but to no avail. Despite our best efforts, every batch of participants has either been hacked to pieces by what almost seems like invisible knifes, or they writhe as if

Gary Lee Sampson files another appeal of his death sentence

Admitted serial killer Gary Lee Sampson is continuing his 16-year fight to avoid execution for a murderous crime spree in 2001.

Lawyers for Sampson, 57, a former Abington resident, filed their official notice of appeal of his January death sentence on Monday with the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, a standard step in capital cases.

A federal jury in Boston sentenced Sampson in January to die for the carjacking and killing of Jonathan Rizzo, a 19-year-old college student from Kingston, in July 2001. He was sentenced to life for the slaying days later of Philip McCloskey, a 69-year-old plumber from Taunton.

Sampson had also pleaded guilty in separate proceedings in New Hampshire to killing his third

UNT’s CHI Lab Identifies Another Victim of Serial Killer John Wayne Gacy – NBC 5 Dallas

After running away from his Minnesota home in 1976, 16-year-old Jimmy Haakenson called his mother, told her he was in Chicago, then disappeared forever.

More than 40 years later, a detective from Illinois arrived at the family’s home to tell Haakenson’s relatives that at some point after hanging up the phone, the teenager crossed paths with serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

Haakenson’s body, it turns out, was among dozens found in a crawl space of Gacy’s Chicago-area home in 1978. But the remains were only recently identified thanks to DNA technology now in use at the University of North Texas’ Center for Human Identification in Fort Worth.

UNT’s Center for Human Identification said they’ve been assisting with the Cook County, Illinois Sheriff’s Office’s Gacy investigation since 2011. Back then, the lab developed DNA profiles from eight unidentified Gacy victims.

John Wayne Gacy: Illinois Sheriff IDs Another Victim of Notorious Serial Killer

CHICAGO — An Illinois sheriff’s office said Wednesday that it has identified a Minnesota runaway as one of the victims of serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

In a news release, the Cook County Sheriff’s Department said that the remains of a person whose body was found under the crawl space of Gacy’s Chicago area home in 1978 were those of 16-year-old James “Jimmie” Byron Haakenson. The teenager had left his home in 1976 and was last heard from in August of that year when he called his mother and told her he was in Chicago.

Gacy was convicted of killing 33 young men and was executed in 1994. Haakenson was one of eight of Gacy’s victims who were buried without being identified. Dart’s office exhumed the remains of all eight in 2011 in an effort to identify them using DNA testing.

Another victim of serial killer John Wayne Gacy identified

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart announced Wednesday that his office has identified a teenager who vanished in the 1970s as a victim of serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that the victim was James Byron Haakenson, a 16-year-old who ran away from Minnesota. The teenager’s remains were among those of more than two dozen young men found in the crawl space of Gacy’s Chicago area home in 1978 and one of eight who were buried without being identified.

In 2011, Sheriff Tom Dart ordered the bodies exhumed and asked relatives of young men who vanished between 1970 and Gacy’s 1978 arrest to submit saliva samples to compare their DNA with that of the victims.

Haakenson is the second of the eight to be identified. Months after the exhumations, Dart announced that one of the victims had been identified as William George Bundy, a 19-year-old

Christie Blatchford: Just another serial killer filled with venom and indifference

WOODSTOCK, Ont. — Elizabeth Wettlaufer, she of no hallucinations or psychosis and with full insight into what she was doing, has no lessons to give.

She is, as duly pronounced by the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health in Toronto, an adult with anti-social and borderline personality disorders and mild alcohol and drug issues.

It is hardly an extraordinary description in the modern world, though Wettlaufer would undoubtedly contest that.

As evidenced by the rapt way she watched herself in her videoed police confession from the prisoner’s box in a Woodstock, Ont., courtroom on Thursday, she believes herself a rare specimen.

From 2007 until August of last year, when she voluntarily walked into the psychiatric hospital and began confessing, Wettlaufer operated as Canada’s most prolific female serial killer, giving insulin overdoses to the elderly, spectacularly vulnerable, frail and often mentally confused charges in her care.

No one noticed anything was awry at the several nursing
