Many cases still left open

About 10 unsolved homicides in Greater Taunton span from the 1970s to this year. Most recently, Devon Hodo, 16, was stabbed June 8 during a confrontation that police believe involved a gang from Taunton and one from Brockton. The altercation apparently started at a “Sweet 16” party at Dighton’s VFW Hall, and intensified after the groups moved to Memorial Park in Taunton, where Hodo was stabbed. He died at Morton Hospital.

On the afternoon of Feb. 24, Kevin Vargas Jr., 23, and Shawn Vargas, 21, were shot to death in an apartment at 729 Somerset Ave. while Kevin Vargas’ two young sons, age 2 and 4, were inside.

Police believe the brothers were targeted. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case, and anyone with information is asked to call (508) 332-TIPS or email vargasreward@hotmail.com.
